Toyota announced a safety recall involving 2023 – 2024 model-year Toyota Tundra, Sequoia and Lexus LX 600 vehicles in Canada. Approximately 28,061 vehicles are involved in this recall. The company also recalled 2022 – 2023 model-year Toyota Tacoma vehicles in Canada. Approximately 21,035 vehicles are involved in this recall.

For the 2023 – 2024 model-year Toyota Tundra, Sequoia and Lexus LX 600 vehicles, certain parts of the transmission may not immediately disengage when the vehicle is shifted to the neutral position, shares Toyota. This can allow some engine power to continue to be transferred to the wheels and can allow the vehicle to inadvertently creep forward at a low speed when it is on a flat surface and no brakes are applied, leading to an increased risk of a crash. For all involved vehicles, Toyota and Lexus dealers will update the software for the transmission at no cost to customers. Owners of involved vehicles will be notified by late April 2024.

For the 2022 – 2023 model-year Toyota Tacoma vehicles, welding debris left on the ends of the rear axle assembly during manufacturing could cause certain retaining nuts to loosen over time and eventually fall off, potentially causing a part to separate from the axle. If separation occurs, this can affect vehicle stability and brake performance, increasing the risk of a crash, explains the company.

For all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will inspect the rear axle assembly and retighten the axle retaining nuts at no cost to customers. If axle components are damaged as a result of this condition, they will be repaired or replaced, if necessary, based on inspection criteria. Customers will be notified about this issue through the mail by late April 2024.
