March 12, 2019 – Palmer Wahl Instruments, Inc. has released a new generation of fixed infrared temperature sensors, called the R series.

The R10 is the first in the series of fixed infrared sensors, to be released throughout 2019. The R10 series are non-contact temperature sensors designed for use in OEM equipment and industrial process control and monitoring applications.

The 304 stainless-steel housing is IP65 (NEMA 4)-rated, and allows the unit to function in ambient temperatures up to 122°F with no additional cooling required. All models are powered by 24VDC to interface with standard PLCs, temperature controllers or panel meters.

All models have a temperature range of 0 to 500°C (32 to 932°F). Models currently available feature four to 20 mA output. Additional models with outputs of 0-5 V and types J and K thermocouple equivalents are coming soon. The 20:1 distance to spot ratio is perfect for measuring smaller target areas, or in applications where the distance between the sensor and the measurement area is larger. The rated accuracy is ± 1% of reading, and the fixed emissivity at 0.95 is suitable for measuring a wide variety of materials.

R10 systems include two stainless-steel locking nuts for mounting in an 18-mm or ¾-inch diameter hole. Optional mounting brackets, air purge and air/water cooling jackets are available, sold separately. Units have five feet (1.5 metres) of cable or 10 feet (three metres) of cable available .
